Concurrent MD/PhD Track
The Molecular Medicine Program attracts significant numbers of students
who are enrolled in the University System of Georgia's concurrent MD/PhD
degree program. For these students, medical school courses may be
substituted for graduate school courses when appropriate. Each
MD/PhD student will develop an individual course of study in
consultation with the student's advisory committee and the Associate
Dean of Graduate Studies. This plan will be designed to assure
that the student has an adequate background while avoiding unnecessary
duplication of effort. The MD/PhD program usually takes seven
years to complete. MD/PhD candidates must fulfill all requirements
for the PhD as established by the Molecular Medicine Graduate Program
and School of Graduate Studies. Students who are interested in the
MD/PhD program should contact that program directly for admissions
information.
Physician Scientist Track
The Molecular Medicine Program also attracts some students who already
hold an MD degree and who wish to obtain a subsequent PhD degree.
These students will generally be participating concurrently in a
clinical fellowship program at MCG and may be holders of an NIH
Physician Scientist Award. As with the concurrent MD/PhD
candidates, each student will develop an individual, three-year course
of study in consultation with the student's advisory committee, the
Director of the Molecular Medicine Graduate Program, and the Associate
Dean of Graduate Studies. Physician Scientist candidates must
fulfill all requirements for the PhD as established by the Molecular
Medicine Graduate Program and School of Graduate Studies. |
