Description: The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Director, Office of Laboratory Animal Services. The Director will report to the Vice President for Research, will manage an administrative staff, associate and assistant director, and 25 + animal caretakers. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The Medical College of Georgia, chartered in 1828, is the state’s academic health sciences center, with colleges of allied health, dentistry, graduate studies, nursing, and medicine. Areas of notable research strength are: cancer; cardiovascular disease, neurological disease, infection and inflammation, and diabetes and obesity. The annual extramural research support has been growing rapidly (last year approx. $74M). Qualifications:


Minimum qualifications are:

  • DVM/VMD from an AVMA accredited program
  • 10 years experience in laboratory animal medicine
  • Thorough knowledge of veterinary medicine, skills in the techniques involved in handling, observing, and caring for animals and housing for different species
  • Thorough knowledge of the diet, physiology, normal behavior, and physical characteristics of all type of laboratory animals
  • Extensive knowledge of FDA, CDC and USDA regulations, PHS policies, AAALAC certification requirements, and ethical research issues and research protocols and guidelines
  • Strong inter-personal skills, ability to manage staff, and knowledge of accounting principles
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty investigators

Preferred qualifications are:

  • Prior administrative experience in laboratory animal medicine and administration at a comparable facility is highly preferred
  • Certification by ACLAM is strongly desired

Responsibilities:

  • Provide institutional level guidance and oversight on federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to MCG veterinary care, animal facilities and animal welfare for MCGs animal care and use program
  • Provide oversight for all animal facilities to ensure compliance and serve in a leadership capacity in defining additional facilities for animal use
  • Oversee and provide formal training, instruction, and consultation for investigators and personnel who work with animals
  • Oversee and coordinate review of animal use protocols prior to their submission to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Work closely with the IACUC, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and Institutional Chemical Committee, and maintain accreditation by the AAALAC, International
  • Provide direct oversight of administrative office staff, associate, and assistant director, and oversee activities of 25+ animal caretakers
  • Oversee the health surveillance program, quality assurance program, and advise investigators on colony management
  • Provide direct clinical services as needed including rotating with other clinical veterinarians on weekends and holidays for emergency duty
  • Maintain a valid veterinary license

Description:  Seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services.  This position will manage three of the five units within the division of Enrollment and Student Services and is the administrator in charge in the absence of the Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services.  The position is responsible for enrollment policy analysis for porgrams offered by MCG, policy and procedures compilation and management editing of selected ESS publications, support of ESS committees, coordination of ESS operations master calendar.
Minimum Requirements: Master's Degree (Doctorate preferred) with five to seven years in a college or university enrollment and/or student services environment.
