We seek candidates with highly developed leadership skills, collaborative communication and interpersonal skills, and an outstanding academic record in education, research, and clinical care in pediatrics. The successful candidate will have the ability to define, articulate, and implement a vision and strategic direction for the Department, as well as provide important input into the overall direction of MCG School of Medicine and its hospital system partner, MCG Health, Inc. (MCGHI).
Candidates must hold the degree of MD or MD/PhD, be board certified in pediatrics, and have academic credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of full professor and be eligible to obtain a license to practice medicine in the state of Georgia. Demonstrated leadership in academic medicine and pediatrics at the university level is required, as well as a successful record of interdisciplinary collaboration, team leadership, strategic planning, and resource development and management are necessary. Demonstrated excellence in education, research, and clinical care across the continuum with an understanding of mission interdependencies is vital. A keen understanding of institutional needs, departmental needs and the means to achieve mutual benefit, as well as an understanding of the interdependent and collaborative relationship between schools of medicine and health systems is essential.
The Department of Pediatrics is well positioned for a new chair. The department, with more than 70 full time faculty appointments and more than 35 residents and fellows, is financially stable and philanthropically oriented. The Children’s Medical Center (CMC) of MCGHI is a dedicated children’s hospital with a full range of subspecialty services. The CMC is a national leader in Patient and Family Centered Care. The Department is consistently recognized as a leader in all phases of medical education at MCG, and has an established track in both federal and other research funding, with focused strength in its renowned Georgia Prevention Institute.
