Description: The program in
Microbiology and Biodefense in the Department invites applicants for two
tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor
ranks. These positions are effective September 1, 2007. A PhD or
MD degree with postdoctoral experience is required. Successful
candidates are expected to have extramural funding (Associate or full
Professor) or be ready to apply for extramural funding (Assistant
Professor). New recruits will join a rapidly expanding and well funded
department with ample opportunity for collaboration with existing faculty.
Research areas of interests include: Pathogenic bacteria relevant to
gastrointestinal diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal
cancer, mucosal immunology, and gut flora in health and disease.
Preference will be given to candidates investigating molecular and cellular
mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis and post-cell interactions within the
gastrointestinal track. The department has established a long standing
collaboration with the gastroenterology section in the department of
medicine and with the gastrointestinal surgery section in the department of
surgery. New recruits will have the chance to collaborate with these
clinical departments, as well as with faculty in the MCG Cancer Center.
The new positions come with substantial lab space and an excellent start-up
package. Successful candidates also are expected to participate in
minimal teaching in the Schools of Medicine or Graduate Studies.

Description: The Medical College of Georgia invites applications from established and distinguished scientists in the area of cancer biology for a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Faculty Position in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology available effective July 1, 2008. This is a tenure track position at the level of full professor. Candidates should have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and are expected to have extramurally funded programs in the areas of cancer cell signaling, cancer immunology, or cancer genetics/epigenetics. One of the primary areas of research focus in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is cancer, and the faculty members in the department have the opportunity to collaborate with the MCG Cancer Center and have access to all the core facilities at the MCG and the Cancer Center. These facilities include genomics, proteomics, microscopy, transgenic and knockout mice, ZebraFish, tumor bank, and small animal imaging. A well-supported phase I/II clinical trials unit is available to facilitate translational research. Candidates are also expected to contribute to medical and graduate education.
