The Chair of the Executive Committee of the MCG Faculty is a member of the faculty and is elected by and from the General Faculty Assembly; is the presiding officer of the Executive Committee of the University Faculty Senate; is the highest elected faculty member and is called Vice Chair, MCG Faculty.

Term of Office

Serves a term of one year duration. Takes office on July 1st after serving a year as Vice Chair-elect.

Responsibilities

  1. Presides and calls all meetings of the Executive Committee of the University Faculty Senate. These meetings are held as often as necessary to carry out its functions, but no less than once a month.

  2. Presides at University Faculty Senate meetings following call to order by Chair (President) and is a member of the University Faculty Senate. Council meetings are preferably held on the 3rd Thursdays of January, February, March, May, September, October, and December.

  3. Is generally designated by the President to preside at meetings of the General Faculty Assembly. Assembly meetings are held twice a year, once in the spring (April) and once in the fall (November).

  4. Appoints Parliamentarian of the General Faculty Assembly, University Faculty Senate and Executive Committee.

  5. Executes decisions of the MCG Faculty and acts as the liaison between the faculty and the administration between meetings of the University Faculty Senate.

  6. Creates ad hoc committees as needed, designates their membership and terminates such committees upon completion of their stated objective.

  7. Calls organizational meetings of Nominating, Grievance, and Research Ethics Committees each year.

  8. Represents the MCG Faculty at institutional meetings.

  9. Attends and serves as a member of the MCG President's Executive Council.

  10. Is responsible to obtain and oversee a budget adequate to run the business of the MCG Faculty.

  11. Informs:

    • Representatives of their election to the University Faculty Senate
    • Representatives from the University Faculty Senate of their election to the Executive Committee
    • Officers of their election to office
    • Chairs and members of all standing committees of their appointments
    • Recipients of Outstanding Faculty Awards of their honor
    • Appointees to University System Advisory Committees, and requests final reports by May
  12. Insures adherence to the timetable of action for various officers and committees.
  13. Maintains and keeps current the Handbook for Officers and Committees.
  14. Arranges for the distribution of the Handbook to all Officers, Executive Committee members, and Chairs of the committees.
  15. Signs all letters in the name of the MCG Faculty.
