WHEREAS: marketplace competition has made it difficult to maintain an edge in the recruitment and retention of excellent university faculty; and
WHEREAS: the attractiveness of the employee benefit package extended to university faculty is an important determinant of recruitment and retention; and
WHEREAS: the Medical College of Georgia is committed to equal treatment of all employee families; and
WHEREAS: extension of health insurance benefits to domestic partners, as defined by the Georgia Board of Regents, would have minimal financial impact (Georgia State University, 2007) and would increase the attractiveness of the benefit package; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Academic Council of the Medical College of Georgia send a letter requesting the Georgia Board of Regents to add an employer subsidized tier of domestic partners to the present USG insurance provider benefits package.
