Faculty Governance Committee
Membership:
Four faculty members plus the appointed Chair, the past Chair, and an administrative representative appointed by the President. Each faculty member serves as a subcommittee chair, task force coordinator, or as the custodian of information related to the committee’s charge.
Duties:
- This committee is involved in the election of faculty representatives; the regular review and reapproval of the MCG Statutes; the activities of faculty appointment, promotion, tenure, and post tenure review; and the periodic evaluation of faculty and administrators.
- Makes regular reports to the Executive Committee and an annual report of committee activities to the University Faculty Senate.
- Assists subcommittees as needed.
Membership, Nominating, and Voting Subcommittee
Membership:
Six faculty members, one elected from each school and the Library. Theses members shall be full-time faculty who are members only of the core of instruction of their respective school or unit and shall be elected by and from the General Faculty Assembly. The term of office is three years with one third of the membership elected each year. A member who has served a full term shall be eligible for immediate re-election. The subcommittee elects its own Chair. The Chair is a member of the Faculty Governance Committee.
Duties:
- With assistance from the administrative assistant to the University Faculty Senate, conducts any necessary census, certifies faculty lists and determines the number of representatives form each school eligible to serve on the University Faculty Senate, and keeps faculty mailing lists current.
- Prepares a slate of nominees for various elected positions including:
- MCG Research Institute’s Board of Directors
- Vice-Chairman-Elect and Secretary-Treasurer of MCG Faculty Assembly
- Membership, Voting, and Nominating Subcommittee
- Student and Faculty Grievance Subcommittee
- Statutes Review Subcommitte
- Faculty Appointment, Developmen, Promotio, Tenure and Post-Tenure Subcommittee
- Faculty Evaluation of Administrators
- Verifies all elections and the election procedure, serves as a Tellers Committee for the election of faculty officers and subcommittee members.
Statutes Review Subcommittee
Membership:
Six faculty members, one elected from each school and the Library. The subcommittee elects its own Chair. The term of office is three years with one third of the membership elected each year.. The Chair is a member of the Faculty Governance Committee.
Duties:
- Reviews and reappraises the Statutes at least once every four years.
- Reviews the Statutes, particularly all parts pertaining to faculty governance, and compares them with Board of Regents’ policies, By-Laws, and SACS Standards.
- Reviews the Statutes for internal consistency of documents and information update, changing names where appropriate.
- Proposes amendments to the Statutes, when appropriate, for adoption by the General Faculty Assembly.
- Submits amendments approved by the General Faculty Assembly to the President for approval and subsequent transmission to the Chancellor and the Board of Regents for approval.
Appointment, Promotion, Tenure, and Post-Tenure Subcommittee
Membership:
Six faculty members, one elected from each school and the Library. The subcommittee elects its own Chair. The term of office is three years with one third of the membership elected each year.. No member shall serve more than two successive terms. The Chair is a member of the Faculty Governance Committee. The Chair meets with the Provost, as needed.
Duties:
- Reviews and recommends changes to institutional guidelines for faculty appointments, development, promotions, tenure and post-tenure reviews.
- Obtains and serves as a repository for the guidelines of each School or unit relative to faculty appointment, development, reappointment, promotion, tenure and post-tenure review.
- Reviews the guidelines of each school and unit for consonance with the institutional guidelines, MCG Statutes, and policies of the Board of Regents. Recommends changes with supporting procedures to the University Faculty Senate, the school or unit faculty or Dean, as appropriate.
- Provides information or services related to the committee’s charge to the Deans or unit heads as requested.
Evaluation of Faculty and Administrators
Membership:
Six faculty members, one elected from each school and the library. The Chair is a member of the Faculty Governance Committee. The Chair meets with the Provost, as needed. The term of office is three years with one third of membership elected each year.
Duties:
- Reviews the university and school guidelines for the annual evaluation of faculty, including student evaluations of teaching performance, making recommendations for improvement when appropriate.
- Reviews the procedure for the evaluation of administrators by faculty, making recommendations for improvement when appropriate.
- Guides the administrative assistant to the University Faculty Senate in implementing the faculty evaluation of administrators, serving as a Teller if needed.
