Membership:
The Executive Committee shall be composed of the officers of the University Faculty Senate (Chair, Chair-elect, Past Chair, and Secretary-Treasurer), six faculty members of the University Faculty Senate representing the Schools and Library, the Chairs of the Standing Committees and the President, ex-officio. The Chair is the Vice-Chair of the General Faculty Assembly and the University Faculty Senate. The Chair-elect is the Vice-Chair-elect of the General Faculty Assembly and the University Faculty Senate and shall become Chair the following year or when a vacancy of the position of Chair occurs. The Secretary-Treasurer shall be the Secretary-Treasurer of the General Faculty Assembly and the University Faculty Senate. The Executive Committee of the University Faculty Senate shall be comprised of six general members, one from each of the five schools and the Library. These members shall be comprised of either the President OR President-elect OR Past President OR President Pro-tem (elected presiding officer) from each school and the Library faculty senates (faculty governance body), who have been duly elected by the faculty of their respective school or Library. The specific member from each school (i.e. President OR President-elect OR Past President OR President Pro-tem) to serve on the Executive Committee shall be determined by these four parties from their school. These elected faculty members shall serve for a term of one year and shall not serve more than three consecutive terms.
The faculty is governed by the University Faculty Senate. The Executive Committee serves to execute decisions of the Council, to prepare the agenda and propose resolutions to the Council, to appoint, subject to Council confirmation, Committees, their Chairs, and members of the committees, and to execute between meetings of the University Faculty Senate, decisions for the orderly conduct of business of the MCG faculty. Decisions of the Executive Committee are by majority vote.
- The Executive Committee has broad powers directed at carrying out the decisions and wishes of the University Faculty Senate. The actions of the officers and the composition and recommendation of the various committees are under the surveillance of the University Faculty Senate which in turn is answerable to the faculty.
- The Executive Committee shall:
- Arrange the agenda for University Faculty Senate meetings.
- Serve as the Committee on Committees for the University Faculty Senate. In that capacity, it shall appoint, subject to University Faculty Senate confirmation, the Chairs and faculty members of the standing and the special committees. It shall oversee the appointment by the Chair of the FADPT committee of a hearing committee in the case of dismissal of faculty members in accordance with the policies of the Board of Regents, Section 300, Policy Number 803.10.02*.
- Prepare and submit reports on the work of the University Faculty Senate to the General Faculty Assembly and the Administration (President) of the university, at the end of each academic year and at such other times as the committee or General Faculty Assembly my find desirable.
- Assist in carrying into effect the actions of the General Faculty Assembly and the Academic Council.
- Serve as a channel through which any member of the General Faculty Assembly may introduce matters for consideration by the University Faculty Senate.
- Rreceive and review reports submitted by any School of the university which may be of concern or interest to any other School, division, or the faculty-at-large and arrange for appropriate distribution.
- Review and approve the work of appropriate subcommittees on revisions to the Faculty Handbook and the Faculty Manual.
- Remit major changes to procedures regarding elections to the University Faculty Senate for approval.
The president of an institution may at any time remove any faculty member or other employee of an institution for cause. Cause shall include willful or intentional violation of the policies of the Board of Regents or the approved statutes of an institution. Further causes or grounds for dismissal are set forth in the tenure regulations of the policies of the Board of Regents and in the approved statutes or bylaws of an institution (BR Minutes, 1974-75, pp.304-313; 1982-83, p.23).
