Welcome
Dr. Richard Callan, Vice-Chair
MCG Faculty Executive Committee

Academic
freedom is a cornerstone of the heritage and advancement of colleges and
universities, particularly at the Medical College of Georgia. Shared
governance is crucial to sustaining academic freedom and vital in shaping
mutuality in the strategic direction our academic health care institution
advances.
In an era of significant change, positive morale of the faculty and
institutional success is dependent on the collective intelligence of shared
governance. This concept requires mutual participation and confidence
between faculty and administration. Faculty governance occurs at all layers
within our institutional framework. Participation in the Medical College of
Georgia’s faculty organization, or Academic Council and its committees,
provides an ideal forum for faculty and administration to cooperatively
exercise shared governance and impact the strategic direction of the
institution. Academic Council also provides innumerable opportunities to
deliberate, navigate and strategize institutional advancement. A service
commitment to the Academic Council and its committees strengthens the
tripartite mission of the Medical College of Georgia while promoting faculty
development through the fostering of collaborative interactions.
Faculty participation is voluntary, although involvement must be
unimpeded and active to significantly impact the future of the Medical
College of Georgia. Please consider and encourage participation
in Academic Council for yourself and your colleagues. A vigorous commitment
will help ensure shared governance for the future of the Medical College of
Georgia. |
