The pediatric emergency department is contiguous with the general emergency department and is open from 0900 to 0100 daily. The Children's Medical Center has a level 1 trauma center designation for children and the pediatric emergency room has two state of the art trauma bays.

The emergency medicine department controls a 10-bed observation unit, immediately adjacent to the department.

An electronic tracking system with plasma screen display is used for patient tracking and is linked to computers throughout the department.

The emergency medicine department owns and controls multiple portable ultrasound machines (GE Logiq e, GE Logiq p5, Sonosite Micromaxx, Sonosite iLook)

Two fiber-optic scopes are available in the department for difficult intubations.
