Emergency Medicine Department

  • MCG is a level 1 trauma center and our ED has multiple trauma bays. 

  • The emergency department is over 10,000 square feet and houses 43 beds (8 trauma or resuscitation rooms).

  • Our annual patient volume is over 74,000 (24,000 of which are pediatric patients).

  • 18% of our patients are admitted to either the main hospital or our observation unit.

  • The pediatric emergency department is contiguous with the general emergency department and is open from 0900 to 0100 daily. The Children's Medical Center has a level 1 trauma center designation for children and the pediatric emergency room has two state of the art trauma bays.

  • The emergency medicine department controls a 10-bed observation unit, immediately adjacent to the department.

  • An electronic tracking system with plasma screen display is used for patient tracking and is linked to computers throughout the department.

  • The emergency medicine department owns and controls multiple portable ultrasound machines (GE Logiq e, GE Logiq p5, Sonosite Micromaxx, Sonosite iLook)

  • Two fiber-optic scopes are available in the department for difficult intubations.
