Mouse Embryonic Stem Cell and Transgenesis
Core Laboratories

The Mouse ES Cell and Transgenesis Core Laboratories provide a centralized service of transgenic and knockout mouse production to the MCG community.  The facility offers a complete service from DNA preparation to screening of the newly genetically engineered mice.  Most of our investigators design and construct their own targeting constructs and/or transgene DNA, but for those who do not we can highly recommend trusted partners that can perform all DNA design and construction steps at relatively low cost.  Services offered by the Core include design and execution of PCR-based screening strategies, ES cell and mouse tail DNA preparation, transgene DNA injection into fertilized oocytes, ES cell gene targeting by homologous recombination, ES cell injection into blastocysts, strain rederivation, and embryo cryopreservation, along with the care and housing of the mice up to the stage where they would be transferred to the participating investigator.  Investigators can chose to have transgenic mice produced either on a hybrid (C3HxC57BL/6) or on a pure C57BL/6 background.  Knockout mice are produced on a C57BL/6 background using our exclusive, published C57BL/6 LK1 embryonic stem (ES) cells.  Thus, knockout mice are produced already on a C57BL/6 background, which is often the mouse background of choice for our investigators’ basic research.

The links to the left provide further information about our services and how to submit a job request, but feel free to contact the Core by e-mail if you wish to discuss your specific needs, or by phone at 721-1795.
