MCG Vision Science Center...Synergy for Sight

The Vision Science Center's goal is to better prevent, treat and cure vision problems through research.

  • Why do growth factors intended to help oxygen-starved tissue cause an overgrowth of tiny blood vessels that may ultimately destroy the vision of diabetics?
  • How does a common virus sometimes sneak past the eye’s natural protection mechanism and cause blindness?
  • How can you stop the natural process of inflammation that occurs after an eye infection or injury and can result in corneal scarring and vision loss?

These are a few of the many questions we are asking at the Medical College of Georgia Vision Science Center.

At MCG, we are building a pool of talented researchers and physician-scientists who are finding answers to how our critical sense of vision works and how diseases and conditions such as these disrupt or destroy it.

We are building synergy among these investigators, fostering collaboration that crosses departmental and school lines to bring together all who study vision.
