The Institute for Family-Centered Care based in Bethesda, Maryland provides consulting, technical assistance, and training in patient- and family-centered care services, assessment and development to hospitals, healthcare systems and organizations across the nation and internationally. The Institute convenes high calibre training seminars to help hospitals and communities develop and refine PFCC strategies and systems, and coordinates the International Conference on Patient- and Family-Centered Care.

The National Working Group on Evidence-Based Health Care aims to promote accurate and appropriate evidence-based policies and practices to improve quality healthcare services nationally. The national group is comprised of caregivers, practitioners, researchers, and more than 40 patient and disease advocacy groups. In a report released August 13, 2008, The Role of the Patient/Consumer in Establishing a Dynamic Clinical Research Continuum: Models of Patient/Consumer Inclusion, the National Working Group emphasizes the importance of engaging patients and consumers in evidence-based healthcare research. Emphasizing that patient involvement is critical to overall care, the report serves as a guide for including patient/consumers' perspectives in all facets of research, including: helping to set research priorities, engaging in study design and development, disseminating information, and implementing evidence-based strategies.
