Conference Overview

This course on temporal bone surgery includes dynamic lectures from nationally recognized otologists and otolaryngologists, featuring a hands-on cadaver dissection laboratory. Participants will learn the latest information on research and surgical techniques to treat temporal bone disorders.

Purpose

This anatomical refresher course will enable otologists and otolaryngologists to review temporal bone surgical procedures on cadavers under the instruction of nationally recognized otologists.

Objectives

This course should enable participants to:

  • Understand the current thinking and practice of genetic test in the evaluation of hearing loss.
  • Understand the current management of hearing loss with ossiculoplasty, cochlear implants and implantable hearing devices.
  • Show knowledge and gain experience in the surgical approaches used for cochlear implants and implantable hearing devices.
  • Review current evaluation and treatment of common otologic disorders as cholesteatoma, acoustic neuroma, glomus, and vestibular dysfunction.
  • Understand the broad socioeconomic challenges facing otolaryngology.

Targeted Audience

This course is designed for practicing otolaryngologists, otologists, audiologists, hearing and balance researchers, and general practitioners with an interest in
hearing and balance dysfunction.

Accreditation

The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing
medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation

The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 16.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™ . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Location

All sessions will be held on the Medical College of Georgia campus. Lectures are scheduled to take place in the Greenblatt Library, Room #108. Temporal bone labs will take place in the Dean C. Elliott Temporal Bone Laboratory.

Registration Information

The registration fee includes the course syllabus containing supplemental material and abstracts of the presentations. Early registration is encouraged as laboratory enrollment is limited to 8 total participants for the temporal bone lab (1 lab that covers 2 days).

Temporal Bone Fee Structure
$150 Registration Fee with Lab
$100 Registration Fee without Lab

Temporal Bone Laboratory 2:30–6:00 p.m., Friday, 

March 28 and 1:30–5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29.


Lab limited to 8 participants.


Enrollment is limited and advanced registration is requested. The 7-hour lab session will be limited to eight participants. Only half of the registration fee will be refunded if cancellation is made after February 28, 2008. An administrative fee of $75 will be retained on all refunds. No refunds will be given after the course has begun.
