FEES and FEESST:
A State-of-the-Art Symposium
February 1-2, 2008

This course is designed for speech-language pathologists

and physicians.

  • A combination of lectures and hands-on lab will enable participants to learn flexible endoscopic swallowing examination techniques both with and without sensory testing.
  • The laboratory session will include practice with simulation mannequins and volunteers.

 

PURPOSE
This course will offer the latest information on the endoscopic swallowing
evaluation procedure, with and without sensory testing.

OBJECTIVES
This course should enable participants to:

  • Demonstrate basic skills for passing the endoscope safely and to
    maneuver the endoscope for both FEES and FEESST.
  • Discuss the role of FEESST in dysphagia evaluation including comparison with VFSE.
  • Identify key structures and interpret basic swallowing physiology during
    the endoscopic exam.

ACCREDITATION
The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CREDIT DESIGNATION
The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine designates this
educational activity for a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™ .
Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their
participation in the activity.

Valdosta State University (VSU) is approved by the Continuing Education
Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to
provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and
audiology. This program is offered for 1.4 CEUs (advanced level; professional area). ASHA CE Provider approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures.

Sessions will be held on the Medical College of Georgia campus. Lectures will be held in the fourth-floor Otolaryngology Conference Room. Hands-on labs will be held in the Simulation Lab on the second floor of the Jennings Building.
