2008 DISTINGUISHED FACULTY
Shahrokh Bagheri, D.M.D., M.D., graduated
cum laude from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He earned a medical
degree and completed advanced residency training in oral and maxillofacial
surgery and an internship in general surgery practice at Emory Medical
School. He practices at Atlanta Oral and Facial Surgery and has training in
microvascularsurgery and microneurosurgery.
Stephen Bankston, D.M.D., is a private
practitioner in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Atlanta Oral and Facial
Surgery. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons and a member of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons.
Rita Bauer, Digital Education Media Specialist at the University
of Toronto, produces lecture material and teaches digital
photography and presentation techniques to staff and students
for the Faculty of Dentistry. She lectures internationally and is
recognized as a leading authority on digital photography in
dentistry.
Roman Cibirka, D.D.S., M.S., is Vice President for Instruction
and Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at the Medical
College of Georgia. He is an Associate Professor of Oral
Rehabilitation in the MCG School of Dentistry and a Fellow of
the Academy of Prosthodontics.
Christian Coachman, D.D.S., is a graduate of Dental
Ceramics Specialization Program in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is
founder of the Brazilian Dental Association and a
professor in multi ceramic training centers in North and
South America and head of Team Atlanta Laboratory.
Scott DeRossi, D.M.D., Associate Professor and Chair of Oral
Health and Diagnostic Services at the Medical College of
Georgia, received his D.M.D. from the University of
Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine where he completed
postdoctoral training in oral medicine. Dr. DeRossi engaged in
a practice limited to oral medicine for over 11 years. Prior to
joining MCG, he was Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine,
Director of the Oral Medicine Residency Progam. He is a
Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine.
Rolf Ewers, M.D., D.M.D., Ph.D., chairs the University Hospital of Cranio-Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery of the Medical School of the University of Vienna, Austria. He received the W. Harry Archer Award of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is President of the International Society for Computer Aided Surgery.
Henry “Butch” Ferguson, D.D.S., Col. Ret., Vice Chair of the
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Director of
Post Graduate Training at the Medical College of Georgia,
received his dental degree in 1980 from the University of
Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, Pittsburgh, Pa. He is a
Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery, a member of the ADA, a fellow of the American
Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the National
Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American
Dental Society of Anesthesiology and the National Dental
Board of Anesthesiology.
David Gane, D.D.S., Vice President of Digital
Imaging for Practiceworks Inc., a subsidiary of Eastman Kodak Company,
earned his physiology, pharmacology and dental degrees from the University
of Western Ontario. He is an international expert on digital imaging and has
served as a consultant for numerous universities.
Lee Getter, D.D.S., M.S.D., Col. Ret., Professor of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia,
received his D.D.S. from New York University and his M.S.D. in
oral surgery from Baylor University in Dallas, Tx. He served as
Director of Pain Control and Chair of the Department of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery for 25 years. Dr. Getter is a Diplomate
of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a
Fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
David Garber, D.M.D., a multidisciplinary
private practitioner in Atlanta, is a Clinical Professor of Periodontics and
Oral Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Georgia and a Clinical
Professor of Prosthodontics at Louisiana State University. He is an Adjunct
Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Texas.
Leonardo Granados, D.D.S., earned his dental
degree from Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia and works for the
Atlanta Institute for Advanced Education.
Solon Kao, D.D.S., Assistant Professor at the Medical College
of Georgia received his B.E. in Biomedical Engineering from
Vanderbilt University in 1994. He earned his dental degree, with
honors, from the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry in
1998. Dr. Kao completed externships in Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery at Vanderbilt his internship and residency in 2005 in Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU.
Mark Kochman, B.Sc., M.Sc., D.D.S., a private practitioner in implant and
cosmetic dentistry, surgery and prosthetics in Toronto, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board
of Oral Implantology.
Jimmy Londono, D.D.S., is an Instructor at the Medical
College of Georgia and has practiced restorative and
implant dentistry in Armenia, Colombia. He is an associate
fellow of the AAID and a former clinical staff director for
the Atlanta Institute for Advanced Education.
Jaime Lozada, D.D.S., Professor and Director of
Advanced Education in Implant Dentistry and Professor of Restorative
Dentistry in the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, is an Associate
Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and a Diplomate of the
American Board of Oral Implantology.
Joy Millis, C.S.P., President of Joy
Communication in Charlotte, N.C., is a Visiting Faculty at the University of
Miami and University of Texas.
Edward Mills, D.D.S., practices adult restorative dentistry in
Atlanta. He is Past President of the American Academy of
Implant Dentistry, Past Director of the Hospital-Based
Residency Program at Emory Adventist Hospital, a Fellow of
the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and a Diplomate
of the American Board of Oral Implantology.
Steve Nelson, D.M.D., B.S., is an Associate Professor
in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation and Director
of the Postgraduate Prosthodontic Program at the
Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry, a fellow
of the American College of Prosthodontists, a
member of the American Academy of Fixed
Prosthodontics and the American Dental Association
and a Diplomate of the American Board of
Prosthodontics.
Donald Nunn, M.D., D.D.S., practices plastic
surgery, otolaryngology/head and neck surgery and oral and maxillofacial
surgery in Atlanta. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the honorary
dental society.
Frank Recker, D.D.S., J.D., a lawyer
specializing in state regulatory practice and professional malpractice
defense law in Ohio and Florida, is Chief Legal Counselor for the American
Academy of Implant Dentistry and a former
member of the Ohio State Dental Board.
Katie Robinson, B.S., received her degree in Computer
Science and Mathematics and a certificate in Software
Engineering from Kellogg College, Oxford University. After
working in the Software Development industry for almost 30
years, she manages computer and audio-visual operations for
the Atlanta Institute for Advanced Education.
John Russo, D.D.S., M.H.S., a private
practitioner in Periodontics in Sarasota, Florida and a clinical assistant
professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is a Diplomate of
the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
James Rutkowski, R.Ph., D.M.D., practices
general and implant dentistry in Clarion, Pa. He is a dental courtesy staff
member at Clarion Hospital pursuing his Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology
at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He is a Fellow of the American Academy
of Implant Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral
Implantology.
Maurice Salama, D.M.D., a multidisciplinary
private practitioner in Atlanta, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of
Periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania and the Medical College of
Georgia.
Mohamed Sharawy, B.D.S., Ph.D., is Professor
and Director of Oral Biology and Maxillofacial Pathology in the Medical
College of Georgia School of Dentistry and Professor of Anatomy in the MCG
School of Medicine.
Aysegul Siranli, D.D.S., Ph.D., D.M.D., Assistant Professor of
Oral Rehabilitation, earned D.D.S. and Ph.D. degrees from
Hacettepe University. She earned a D.M.D. degree from the
University of Pittsburgh, where she also completed an
implantology fellowship and served on the faculty. She teaches
prosthodontics and implant dentistry at MCG.
Hilt Tatum, D.D.S., Associate Professor in the
Lille University Medical School Department of Oral and Maxillofacial
Implantology, is a Diplomate and Past
President of the American Board of Oral Implantology, Past President of the
American Academy of Implant Dentistry and Past Director of the Edward White
Hospital Implant Residency Program.
Keith Volkmann, D.M.D., is Associate Professor
of Oral Biology and Maxillofacial Pathology in the Medical College of
Georgia School of Dentistry.
Rob White, General Manager, Root Laboratory.
Mr. White has been a vital part of Root Laboratory for the past 27 years. He
has lectured at New York University, the Medical College of Georgia and the
Alabama Implant Study Group.
Lee Whitesides, D.M.D., M.S., practices
comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery in Marietta, Ga.
