Create a forum for sharing scholarship to advance the
knowledge of nursing practice, education and research.
OBJECTIVES
Advance nursing scholarship in practice, education
and research by promoting worldwide professional
development of nurses through knowledge dissemination and knowledge utilization.
Promote knowledge development and nursing
scholarship focused on nursing issues and health
care concerns for the southeastern United States.
Integrate knowledge across nursing disciplines to
promote scholarship in education, practice and
research.
INTRODUCING THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Ora L. Strickland, PhD, DSc (Hon.), RN, FAAN is a
professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of
Nursing, Emory University. Dr. Strickland is internationally
known as a specialist in nursing research, measurement
techniques, maternal health, and parenting. She is
one of Emory’s principal investigators for the Women’s
Health Initiative, which is the largest clinical trial of its
kind studying 164,000 post-menopausal women over
13 years. In addition, her research on expectant fathers
was featured in numerous newspapers such as the
Washington Post and Chicago Tribune.
She teaches
research design and measurement in the PhD doctoral
program. Dr. Strickland has held several Distinguished
Visiting Professorships, most recently at Howard University
in Washington, DC. She is renown as an expert in
nursing research measurement; her most recent books
are titled Measurement of Nursing Outcomes: Client
Outcomes and Quality of Care, and Measurement of
Nursing Outcomes: Self –Efficacy and Self Care.
Dr. Strickland has numerous research publications.
Her research findings can be read in such journals as:
Journal of Nursing Measurement, Heart and Lung, Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing, Nurse Practitioner,
and Journal of National Black Nurses Association.
Clinical Interest: perinatal health, women’s health,
childbearing and reproductive health.
Research Interest: minority women’s health and
research measurement with emphasis on psychosocial
and bio-physiological outcomes during life transitions
and chronic diseases.
