2008 Southeastern Consortium for Dermatology

"Cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease,

with an emphasis on renal disease"

October 3-5, 2008

Augusta Marriott Hotel and Suites, Augusta, GA

PURPOSE

The 2008 Southeastern Education Consortium annual meeting will gather faculty, residents and fellows from nine major academic medical centers in the Southeast for interaction with private physicians and patients who exhibit interesting dermatological anomalies. The meeting will promote the educational and professional growth of dermatologists and strengthen relationships within the specialty. The focus of the 2008 meeting is medical dermatology with an emphasis on diagnosing and treating infectious disease, pediatrics and cutaneous manifestations of systemic diseases. The consortium enables attendees to learn from one another in a dynamic, productive atmosphere surrounded by leaders in dermatology.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Recognize and treat cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease.
  • Describe logistical issues involved in organ transplantation, including renal transplantation.
  • Diagnose and treat skin cancer in transplant patients.
  • Recognize and plan treatment strategies for immune reconstitution syndrome.
  • Review treatment algorhythms for alopecias and other systemic disease.
  • Conduct effective inpatient consultations.
  • List steps in diagnosis and treatment for cutaneous infections, mucosal skin diseases and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
  • Analyze the use of antibiotics to treat dermatological diseases.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
  • Describe new treatment options in pediatric dermatology.
