Course Director
Sean L. Francis, M.D., is Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology and Chief of the Section of Urogynecology and Pelvic
Surgery. He completed a three-year fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and
specializes in laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Francis is one of the few gynecologists
with formal training in laparoscopic and minimally invasive pelvic surgery.
GUEST FACULTY
Franklyn H. Geary, Jr., is an Associate Professor in the Department of
Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Director of
Maternal Fetal Medicine and the Residency Program Director for Morehouse
School of Medicine. Dr. Geary is certified by the American Board of
Obstetrics and Gynecology. His interests include domestic violence,
preeclampsia, HIV in pregnancy, preterm labor and prenatal diagnosis.
Robert D. Moore, M.D., is Director of Advanced Pelvic Surgery and Co-Director
of Urogynecology at the Atlanta Center for Laparoscopic Urogynecology. He is internationally recognized in Urogynecology and treats patients worldwide. Dr
Moore is board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Ob/Gyn and the
International College of Surgeons. He is member of the American Association of
Gyn Laparoscopists, American Urogynecology Society, International
Urogynecology Association and the American Urologic Association.
Medical College of Georgia Faculty
Lawrence D. Devoe, M.D., is the former Chairman of the MCG Department of Ob/Gyn. He is President of the South Atlantic Ob/Gyn Association and Chief Editor of the Journal of Reproductive Medicine. He has been a primary investigator in the STAN trials developing a cutting-edge fetal monitoring system and helped develop the original fetal monitoring systems.
Adelina M. Emmi, M.D., is a professor of Reproductive Endocrinology,
Infertility and Genetics in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She
is board certified in reproductive endocrinology and obstetrics and
gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Emmi is
the medical director of the Reproductive Labs of Augusta.
Daron G. Ferris, M.D., former president of the American Society of
Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, is Director of the MCG Gynecologic
Cancer Prevention Center. He has been a primary investigator in HPV vaccine studies.
Sharad Ghamande, M.D., is an Associate Professor and Chief of Gynecologic Oncology section in the Department of Ob/Gyn. Dr. Ghamande completed his fellowship in gynecological oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. He founded the MCG/CSRA cancer support group. His research is in ovarian and cervical cancers.
Philip J. Hanes, D.D.S., is Professor and Chairman of the Department of
Periodontics in the School of Dentistry. He is an American Board of
Periodontology certified periodontist with more than 20 years of experience
in periodontics and dental implant treatment. He has conducted clinical trials
testing dental implant devices and the use of locally administered, sustained release
anti-microbial agents to treat periodontitis.
Erin Z. Holsten, M.D., is an Assistant Professor and the Student Clerkship
Director of the Department of OB/GYN. Dr. Holsten completed her medical
education and residency at MCG. She received an American Medical Association
Scholarship and is a member of the American College of obstetricians and
Gynecologists.
Ana
Murphy, M.D., is the Brooks Professor and Chair of
the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr.
Murphy is a Fellow of the American College of
Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is board certified in
reproductive endocrinology and obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Murphy’s interests include reproductive
endocrinology and infertility, endometriosis and fibroids.
She is the author of numerous articles and chapters on the
surgical and medical therapy of endometriosis, uterine
fibroids and laparoscopic/hysteroscopic surgery and pelvic adhesions.
Nicole P. Yost, M.D., is board certified in obstetrics/gynecology and maternal
fetal medicine. She completed a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Yost's
interests include evaluating modalities for predicting preterm birth,
investigating interventions aimed at reducing the incidence of preterm birth
and researching medical complications of pregnancy such as sickle cell disease.

The registration fee includes a course syllabus containing supplemental
material and abstracts of the presentations. Early registration is
encouraged
to ensure your enrollment and lodging reservation. The registration fee,
less a $75 administrative charge, is refundable if notification of
cancellation is received by June 13, 2008.
