PURPOSE AND EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this conference is to engage experts in the field of cardiology in meaningful dialogue with health care professionals on medical updates, diagnosis, management and current treatment options of relevance to cardiovascular care. By attending the conference, participants will increase their ability to:

  • Discuss and explain with competence recent developments in preventive cardiology
  • Identify the management issues and treatment options dealing with cardiovascular disease in the elderly
  • Compare new advances in the treatment of heart attacks
  • Improve patient outcomes by treating hypertension in accordance with updated benchmarks for clinical care
  • Treat lipid abnormalities in patients with cardiovascular disease
  • Identify and recommend how lifestyle changes can affect your cardiovascular system
  • Describe the pathophysiology and symptoms of heart disease in women and why they differ from men
  • Summarize proper techniques and clinical applications of peripheral arterial measurements
  • Recognize the effects of obesity on the heart and blood pressure and be prepared to recommend lifestyle change to ameliorate the negative impact on patients
  • Improve clinical skills

TARGETED AUDIENCE

This conference is designed for the interactive participation among physicians (allopathic and osteopathic), registered nurses, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, dieticians, psychologists, social workers, case managers, nursing home administrators, occupational therapists, physical therapists, massage therapists, counselors, pharmacists, medical directors, physician assistants, other health professionals and the public at large.

DESIGNATION

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine and Lamar Medical Center/30901 Development Corporation. The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

ACCREDITATION
The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity includes 6 hours of instruction and attendance at the entire activity is approved by the Medical College of Georgia for 6 Continuing Education Contact Hours.

Application for credit has been files with the American Academy of family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

Medical College of Georgia Division of Continuing Education, School of Medicine and University of Georgia School of Pharmacy will distribute enduring material "Safe Prescribing in the 21st Century." Conference attendees will have the opportunity to receive 5 additional CME/AAFP credits upon completion of a post test and evaluation.
