Prevention and Management of
Stroke and Heart Attack

Brain and Heart Attack 2007
April 5-7, 2007

PURPOSE
Review the current best practice to treat and prevent stroke and heart attack.

The stroke portion of the program will prepare participants to:

  • Articulate an approach to treat acute stroke in the 21st century.
  • Discuss intra-arterial thrombolytics for acute stroke.
  • Review appropriate management/treatment plans for patients in the first week after stroke.
  • Optimize uses of anti-thrombotics and heparinoids in stroke patients.
  • Review treatment protocols and needs for neurosurgical involvement in intracranial hemorrhage.
  • Discuss trends in stroke prevention.
  • Learn how telestroke can improve care at every hospital.

The heart attack section of the program will prepare participants to:

  • Use the electrocardiogram to predict high-risk heart attack.
  • Understand the role of echocardiography to detect cardiac sources of emboli.
  • Discuss trends and management of congestive heart failure.
  • Review findings and treatment protocols for acute myocardial infarction in
    2006.
  • Understand how to optimize blood pressure treatments to prevent heart attack and stroke.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is designed for primary care physicians, emergency physicians, neurologists, family physicians and physician assistants.

LOCATION
All sessions will be held in the Crowne Plaza Resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

DESIGNATION

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
The $395 registration includes continental breakfasts, breaks and a course syllabus. The registration fee, less a $75 administrative charge, is refundable if notification of your cancellation is received by March 22, 2007.

LODGING INFORMATION
To make a room reservation at the Crowne Plaza Resort, please call the Crowne Plaza Resort at 800-334-1881. You may fax reservations with payment of deposit by credit card to 843-842-6503. When requesting reservations, specify that you are with the Brain and Heart Conference to get the special group rate.

Reservations deadline: March 4, 2007. After this date, rooms may be reserved on a space-and-rate availability basis only.

Room Rates: $194 per day single or double occupancy, plus 10% tax and a Resort Facilities Fee of $10 per room, per day. Reservations must be guaranteed by a check for one night’s lodging or by major credit card.

COMFORT ZONE
Although every effort is made to have a comfortable temperature in the meeting room, we realize everyone’s comfort zone is different. Please bring a jacket or light wrap in case the room is too cool for your comfort.
