PURPOSE
This course will provide timely, evidence-based clinical information to practitioners
regarding the oral health of children.

.

OBJECTIVES

This course will enable participants to:

  • Assess and triage dentoalveolar injuries in children
  • Differentiate urgent and non-urgent injuries
  • Follow clinical pathways to manage crown fractures and luxation injuries in
    primary and young permanent teeth
  • Identify barriers that inhibit patient compliance
  • Introduce motivational interviewing to change behavior
  • Discuss current methods of diagnosis, pathophysiology and management of
    these conditions
  • Discuss the implications for the dental treatment of children with these
    conditions

Pediatric dentists, general dentists, specialists, hygienists and dental assistants

GUEST FACULTY

Dennis J. McTigue D.D.S., M.S., Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry, earned his D.D.S. and M.S. in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Iowa and taught at the Lousiana State University School of Dentistry for eight years. He chaired the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Ohio State and served as the college’s Associate Dean. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He is past president of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and of the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped. He is a Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has maintained a private practice in pediatric dentistry for over 30 years and has consulted with the U.S. Air Force, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, the American Dental Association and various state and federal health agencies.

MCG FACULTY
Steven M. Adair, D.D.S., M.S., Course Director, received his dental degree from the University of North Carolina, and his master’s degree and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Iowa. He is professor and former chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at MCG. Dr. Adair is editor-in-chief of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, editor of Pediatric Dentistry, a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He has served on the Commission for Dental Accreditation, the National Board Test Construction  Committee and as aa consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Roy RockmanRoy A. Rockman, D.D.S., director of the MCG School of Dentistry Pediatric  Dentistry Residency Program, earned his dental degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed a pediatric dentistry residency at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He has served on the Public Information Committee for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He has published over 250 chapters, manuscripts and abstracts associated with pediatric dentistry and dental restorative materials research and clinical utilization.
