PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
To enable the practitioner to better understand and choose wisely from the
myriad of
dental materials and bonding agents available today. Included will be a
bleaching update
and comparison of at-home, OTC and in-office whitening procedures.
Participants will also
learn a systematic approach for smile analysis as well as diagnostic
criteria and preparation
design needed to achieve beautiful and predictable anterior ceramic
restorations.

GUEST FACULTY
Ed Swift, D.M.D., received his degree from the Medical University of South
Carolina
and a masters degree in Operative Dentistry from the University of Iowa. He
is a
professor and is the chairman of the Department of Operative Dentistry at
the
University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, Chapel Hill. Dr. Swift
researches
dental materials, particularly in the area of dentin bonding and other
aspects of
adhesive and esthetic dentistry. He maintains a part-time intramural
practice devoted
to restorative and esthetic dentistry. Dr. Swift is a member of the American
Dental
Association, Academy of Operative Dentistry, International Association for
Dental
Research, Academy of Dental Materials and American Academy of Esthetic
Dentistry.
Barry Hammond, D.M.D., Course Director, a 1986 graduate of the Medical
University
of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine, completed a general practice
residency in
Chapel Hill, N.C. Dr. Hammond maintained a private practice for 15 years,
emphasizing
restorative and esthetic dentistry. He is an L.D. Pankey Institute alumnus
and taught for
several years with the Ross Nash Institute for Dental Learning in Charlotte,
N.C. Dr.
Hammond joined the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry faculty in
2006 and
his lectures are primarily focused on esthetic techniques and materials and
the role
occlusion plays in achieving predictability. Dr. Hammond is the University
Advisory
Council Member for the Medical College of Georgia to the American Academy of
Cosmetic Dentistry. Other organizational memberships include the American
Dental
Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental
Education
Association.
Jack Morris, D.M.D., B.S., a 1984 graduate of the University of Alabama
School of
Dentistry, received a certificate in prosthodontics at Fort Gordon, Ga. in
conjunction with
the Medical College of Georgia in 1994. He mentors prosthodontics residents
at Fort
Benning, Ga., and is Director of the U.S. Army Prosthodontic Residency at
Fort Gordon,
Ga. Dr. Morris joined the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry
faculty in 2006
as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation. He is a
Diplomate of
the American Board of Prosthodontics and a member of the American Dental
Association, the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and the American
College of
Prosthodontists.
