A note from the course director...
This year, we are proud to present four outstanding School of Dentistry faculty. Dr. Robert Loushine, director of the Endodontic Residency, is an expert in endodontic advances and endodontic emergencies. Dr. William Brackett is a respected researcher in dentin adhesion whose private practice augments clinical applications of his studies. Dr. Mike Pruett is highly regarded for his surgical and implant experience and management of the General Practice Residency program. Dr. Martha Brackett adds her unique academic experience and knowledge of language and culture to the faculty.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

This lecture/participation course will update general practitioners about endodontic advances while reviewing more commonly known treatments and how to use both to optimize success. It will also review dentin bonding systems and discuss clinical effectiveness. Practitioners will gain insight into medical emergencies in the dental office. Attendees will also have a better
understanding of communications with the Spanish-speaking patient.

CREDIT

The Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry is a recognized ADA CERP provider, member of ACDE, ADA/CERP approved, AGD approved national sponsor, FAGD/MAGD credit. 01/01/06-12/31/09. This course includes 12.50 hours of instruction. The optional workshop is an additional 2 hours.

MCG FACULTY  

Dr. Gary HolmesR. Gary Holmes, D.M.D., M.S., Course Director, associate professor in the MCG Department of Oral Rehabilitation, is an alumnus of the MCG Schools of Dentistry and Graduate Studies. Dr. Holmes joined the MCG faculty after 10 years of private practice and military contracting and maintains a private practice in the intramural faculty dental practice. He is the course director of the freshman dental anatomy and occlusion class and teaches in operative dentistry, dental materials and complete dentures.

 

 


Dr. Martha BrackettMartha Goël Brackett, D.D.S., M.S.D., assistant professor of oral rehabilitation at MCG, received a D.D.S. from the Autonomous University of the State of México, an M.S.D. in operative dentistry from Indiana University and a D.D.S. from the University of Nebraska. She teaches operative dentistry, maintains an intramural general dental practice and researches resin-based restorative materials. She presents CE courses to enhance the communication of dental professionals with Spanish-speaking patients.

 

 


Dr. William BrackettWilliam W. Brackett, D.D.S., M.S.D., professor of operative dentistry and fixed prosthodontics, received his master’s degree in operative dentistry from Indiana University and his D.D.S. from Ohio Sate University. He has seven years of experience in full-time private practice. He has previously held full-time appointments in operative dentistry at Indiana University, Ohio State University, University of Tennessee and University of Nebraska, and has authored more than 60 scientific articles. Dr. Brackett has studied clinical applications of dentin adhesive restorative materials with Dr. David Pashley and is a scientific reviewer for Operative Dentistry, The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, The American Journal of Dentistry, The Journal of Dentistry, Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, The European Journal of Dentistry, The European Journal of Oral Sciences and The Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry.

 


Dr. Robert LoushineRobert J. Loushine, D.D.S., professor and director of MCG’s Endodontic Postgraduate Program, received his dental degree from the University of Minnesota and his postgraduate training in endodontics from the U.S. Army Endodontic Program. He has over 30 years of clinical experience and over 20 years of teaching experience. Dr. Loushine has lectured internationally and has coauthored a surgical textbook and published over 50 articles on surgical and microscopic endodontics. Dr. Loushine is a diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and is a past consultant to the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Prior to joining the MCG faculty, he was the Endodontic Postgraduate Program director in the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon, GA.

 


Dr. Mike PruettMichael E. Pruett, D.M.D., assistant professor of oral rehabilitation, vice chair of hospital dentistry and director of the General Practice Residency at MCG, received his D.M.D. from MCG and completed a two-year general practice residency at the University of Virginia. He was the director of dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital and assistant director of the general practice residency at Saint Francis Hospital Medical Center in Hartford, Conn. He has 14 years of experience placing and restoring dental implants and maintains a busy private practice with emphasizing hospital dentistry, managing medically compromised patients and sedation dentistry. Dr. Pruett is a fellow in the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy and is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
