Dental Hygiene Clinical Review
March 7, 2008

Location
Sessions will be held in room AD3116 and Clinic 14, School of Dentistry Building, Medical College of Georgia.

Purpose
This course will enhance the confidence of the Registered Dental Hygienist to perform clinical dental hygiene services in the 21st century. This course is not designed to replace the rigorous curriculum of an accredited dental hygiene program and it does not guarantee success on National, Regional or State Board examinations.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss current concepts of the American Heart Association’s Premedication Guidelines; infection control; ergonomics
  • Demonstrate instrumentation skills utilizing hand instruments, air polishers and power scalers
  • Apply pit and fissure sealants and fluoride varnish
  • Demonstrate effective instrument sharpening technique
  • Discuss current Dental Hygiene treatments for proper care and maintenance of amalgams, aesthetic restorations and implants
  • Utilize computer technology in the dental setting
  • Review digital radiography

Credit
The scheduled instructional time in this course is 7.25 hours and attendance at the entire program is approved by the Medical College of Georgia for .725 Continuing Education Units (CEU).

Supplies Needed
Registrants are asked to bring a lab coat or isolation gown, safety glasses and clinic shoes- closed toes and heels. (Rubber soled shoes are recommended for comfort and safety.)

Course Director
Sue Tucker Ward, RDH, MEd, has served as an Instructor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Hygiene for over 19 years. Her teaching areas include pre-clinical dental hygiene, senior Dental Hygiene Clinical Coordinator, and course director for the Dental Hygiene Practicum. Ms. Ward is the faculty advisor for the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association. She is a graduate of Cambridge College’s National Institute of Teaching Excellence.

 

Course Faculty

Marie CollinsMarie A. Collins, RDH, MS, EdD, Associate Professor and Chair of Dental Hygiene in the MCG School of Allied Health Sciences and Associate Professor in the MCG School of Dentistry Department of Periodontics, teaches periodontal instrumentation, research design, and basic life support in the dental and dental hygiene curricula.




Ana thompson
Ana Thompson, RDH, MS, Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Hygiene. Her teaching areas include dental anatomy, dental materials laboratory, radiology and clinic courses. Her main interest is in education and in the further development of interdisciplinary research involving the Dental Hygiene field.


 

Registration Information
The registration fee for this course is $300. The registration fee, less a $35 administrative charge, is refundable if notification of cancellation is received prior to February 29, 2008.

This course is limited to 9 registrants (a minimum of 3 registrants is required to conduct the course).
