Dental Hygiene Alumni Day 2007

Oral Health Interventions for
Infants, Children and Teens

PURPOSE
This course will cover good communication with parents and children, perinatal/infant care, access to care, caries risk assessment, minimally invasive treatment and risky adolescent behaviors. This exciting and fast paced course will renew your enthusiasm for treating children of all ages.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
This course will enable participants to:

  1. Optimize parent education and involvement in a child’s dental care.

  2. Utilize childhood development concepts to apply age-appropriate communication skills.

  3. Optimize periodontal and oral health treatment for pregnant women including those at high risk for problems.

  4. Understand the relationship between smoking and infant health.

  5. Optimize infant oral health care.

  6. Assess caries risk and develop strategies utilizing fluoride, sealants, and xylitol.

  7. Recognize warning signs for childhood abuse and family violence; understand the dental professional’s responsibility to report abuse.

  8. Describe adolescent behaviors harmful to oral and general health; determine intervention strategies in the dental setting.

COURSE FACULTY
Stacy McCauleyStacy McCauley, R.D.H., M.S.
Ms. McCauley, a professional educator for Philips/Sonicare and a dental hygienist in Durham, N.C., earned a bachelor’s degree from Siena Heights College in Adrian, Mich., and a master’s degree in dental hygiene education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a former clinical assistant professor at the UNC School of Dentistry with extensive experience in clinical care and research.

$85 Others

Registration fee, less a $20 administrative fee, is refundable if notice of cancellation is received by April 13, 2007. Attendance is limited. Please register early to ensure your attendance.
