This program enables
physician assistants to earn a Master of Science degree from the Medical
College of Georgia School of Graduate Studies and a residency certificate
from the School of Medicine. Graduates are trained for careers as academic
and clinical educators and highly skilled practitioners.
Master of Science
This interdisciplinary research degree program for allied health professionals
cultivates:
- advanced knowledge and skills in related basic and clinical sciences
- research skills to formulate questions, organize ideas and examine
information from basic and clinical sciences
- mastery of advanced content with a grounding in the philosophy, theory
and methods of higher education
- leadership skills to plan, develop and deliver cost-effective, quality
health care services
Students pursue a course work proposal approved by the advisory committee,
department chairman and dean. At least two consecutive semesters of full-time
study or the equivalent in campus residence is required, with a minimum grade
point average of 2.8.
Admission Criteria
- Degree from ARC-PA-approved physician assistant program
- NCCPA board certified/eligible
- Eligibility for Georgia physician assistant license
- Three letters of recommendation
- Minimum Graduate Record Examination general test score of
1000 (sum of verbal and quantitative sections), taken within past five
years
- Two official transcripts from all post-secondary schools
- Minimum paper-based score of 550 or computer-based score of 213 on Test
of English as a Foreign Language, if applicable

Residency
The physician assistant resident will receive intensive education and
clinical experience in general urology, leading to a master of science degree
and residency certificate. One physician assistant urology resident will be
admitted this year. The program begins in August.
The residency is a 15-month, full-time program requiring 40 to 60 hours a
week in clinic and the classroom. The resident will attend classes and see
patients in the clinic and hospital for the first 12 months; the remaining time
will be spent in clinic and completing a master’s thesis. The resident will
receive a graduate stipend of $30,000 per year, with tuition reduced to $25 per
semester plus student activity/
health/technology fees. The Department of Urology covers the cost of textbooks
and liability insurance. The resident must meet criteria for the MCG School of
Graduate Studies and the master of science degree program.
The residency program includes rotations at MCG and the Department
of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta.
