This seven-semester program
integrates didactic and clinical
instruction.The first three
semesters of didactic instruction include
experience in the human patient
simulation lab. Students become familiar
with anesthesia techniques and procedures
in the lab prior to entering clinical
instruction. Students administer sedation,
regional and general anesthesia to
pediatric and adult patients for a wide
variety of surgical specialties including
general surgery, orthopedics,
otolaryngology, obstetrics, thoracic,
vascular, cardiac and neurology. Students
administer on average more than 800
anesthetics over at least 2,000 clinical
hours. Graduates are eligible for the
National Certification Examination
required to practice as a nurse anesthetist.
The Master of Science in Nursing
programs are fully accredited by the
Commission on Collegiate Nursing
Education (www.aacn.nche.edu/
CCNE/reports/accprog.asp).
The Nursing Anesthesia is accredited
by
the Council on Accreditation of Nurse
Anesthesia Educational Programs
(www.aana.com).
Program Goals
This program prepares graduates to:
- Plan, implement, and evaluate anesthesia care for patients having diagnostic, therapeutic, or surgical procedures
- Collaborate with other health professionals in planning, implementing, and evaluating anesthesia care
- Analyze research critically and
incorporate relevant findings into
clinical practice
- Work within the state to function as a
leader among the health care team to
ensure safe, high-quality, economical
care
- Instruct patients and health care personnel on topics related to anesthesia, respiratory care, fluid therapy, and physiological monitoring
Admission Requirements
- BSN and/or Master’s Degree in Nursing
from an accredited program. Minimum
GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Current unrestricted US Registered
Nurse license.A Georgia unrestricted
RN license is required prior to
enrollment
- Minimum of 1 year full-time critical care
RN experience within the past 3 years
- Official transcripts from all postsecondary
schools
- Graduate or undergraduate chemistry
course with a minimum grade of B
within the last 5 years
- Resume or curriculum vitae
- Program may require an interview.
Applicants who qualify for an interview
will be contacted by the program’s
admissions committee
- Three letters of recommendation from
individuals qualified to assess prior
academic and clinical performance. It is
recommended that at least one letter be
from a nurse anesthetist or
anesthesiologist
- A personal statement outlining your
professional goals, why you want to
become a CRNA and, outlining the
contributions you intend to make as a
CRNA. (Part V of application)
- Official GRE score of 900 or higher
(sum of verbal and quantitative scores)
- Official TOEFL score of 550 paperbased,
213 computer-based or 79
Internet-based, if applicable
- An official comprehensive course-bycourse
report of all foreign educational
documents from each foreign college
and university attended is required
(including calculation of grade point
average (GPA) equivalent on a 4.0 scale).

transcripts/course-by-course report must
be submitted from one of the following
three approved Foreign Credentials
