Master of Science
This is a research degree program for allied health and related health professionals.  The program is interdisciplinary, research-oriented and requires the completion of a thesis.

Program Objectives
The objectives are to prepare:

  • Specialized clinical practitioners with advanced knowledge and skills in related basic and clinical sciences;
  • Researchers who can formulate questions, organize and test ideas and examine information from the basic and clinical sciences to apply to their disciplines;
  • Leaders who can help plan, develop and deliver cost-effective, quality health care services.

Admission Requirements

  • A completed application demonstrating at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited program in the allied health or related health discipline and professional credentials (or eligibility for) in the field.
  • Three academic or employment references.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores. The most competitive applicants will typically have a score of at least 1000 (combined verbal and quantitative).
  • The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all international applicants (excluding English speaking countries); minimum acceptable score is 550 paper-based or 213 computer-based, or 79 internet-based.
  • Additional discipline specific requirements may be stipulated by
    the discipline department.

Note: Outstanding qualifications in one or more areas may outweigh weakness in another.

Graduation Requirements
Completion of a minimum of 36 semester hours with the following minimum requirements:

  • Basic Science Core—7 semester hours
  • Research Tools and Methods—7 ­ semester hours
  • Thesis Research—4 semester hours
  • Interdisciplinary/disciplinary Studies—18 semester hours

* Non-residents of Georgia pay an additional $6,876 tuition per semester. Residents of Aiken and Edgefield counties in South Carolina receive a waiver of non-resident tuition.

What is the admissions deadline for this program?

The deadline for completed applications for fall semester is July 1. Some departments prefer a fall start; others may be more flexible. Generally, the deadline for completed applications is two months prior to the beginning of the semester.

How long does it take to complete this degree program?

Depending on the specific academic discipline, the program may be completed in four semesters of full-time study or up to five years of part-time study.

How much of the program can be completed online?

Depending on the department, some of the program is available online. Most of the core science courses are not online. Online courses generally require three on-campus meetings per semester.

Can I work full time while attending this program?

Yes, if you complete the program part time and have evening time available.

What type of financial support is available for this program?

MCG participates in all federal student aid programs, as well as state and private programs. MCG helps students fund their education through grants or scholarships, loans, a service commitment program and/or employment. A limited number of assistantships may be available each year.
