Leadership at The MCG Cancer Center is charged with growing the center's clinical and research programs, advancing knowledge in the fields of cancer biology, treatment and prevention; and achieving designation as a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center site to benefit the surrounding community and the citizens of Georgia.

Dr. John K. Cowell, a geneticist, edited the first and second editions of Molecular Biology of Cancer, published by Bios Publishing Corp., Oxford, UK. He also has contributed chapters to some 16 books on cancer biology. A full professor of pathology at MCG, his job at the Cancer Center will be to foster collaborative science among the investigators.

NCI-sponsored trials ask the best questions and are probably the most strictly conducted of the clinical trials, but a particular option may not work for everyone.

Mark Kochevar divided most of his career between government service at the National Cancer Institute and the University of Maryland Cancer Center. The opportunity to work under the leadership of Dr. Kapil Bhalla – whom Mr. Kochevar terms "the quintessential translational cancer researcher" – and to build a center from the ground up is extraordinary, he says.
