Principles of  Teaching and Adult Learning Styles

A review of teaching and learning styles and how they impact learning

9:20-10:10 a.m

The One Minute Preceptor

A review and demonstration of skills that can enhance teaching even with a busy workload

10:10-11:00 a.m.

Using Direct Observational Skills

Demonstration and role play of observation skills used during precepting

11:00-11:50 a.m.

Questioning Techniques:  Verbal and Non-verbal

A look at strategies that challenge and invite the learner to improve
11:50 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Lunch (On Your Own)

1:00 -1:50 p.m.

Providing Constructive Feedback & Techniques of Evaluation

A review of characteristics and barriers to effective feedback
1:50 - 2:40 p.m.

Teaching at the Bedside

An exploration of the strategies for teaching in the clinical environment
2:50—3:45 p.m.

The Difficult or Struggling Learner

A guide for identifying barriers to learning and a review of tools for helping difficult or struggling learners.
3:50- 4:45 p.m. Solving Problems in Learner/Preceptor Relationships
An interactive discussion of
teaching approaches to problems in the preceptor/learner relationship
4:45 p.m. Closing Remarks
Attendee self evaluation, program evaluations and distribution of
