Many people are curious about a career in health care. But they don't know about the huge variety of health care jobs, beyond the familiar roles of doctor, nurse, or dentist.

Take a look at the career pages on this site, or try the Health Careers in Georgia Manual. This extensive resource provides basic information on many health professions. All the essentials are covered, from planning a career to places of employment, starting salary, specific education/training, colleges in Georgia that offer programs in that subject area, and professional organizations.

Or try the Explore Health Careers site for more ideas on the right career field for you. The CareerOneStop site also offers profiles of health careers with salary and employment profiles for Georgia (and other states); choose "Browse Occupations" and then "Healthcare" to get a profile for a particular occupation.

Information reported by the U.S. Department of Labor indicates that health care will be one of the fastest growing industries in the country. Employment in health occupations will grow from 10.9 million jobs in 2000 to 14 million jobs in 2010. This represents a growth rate of 28.8%, which is more than twice the growth rate for non-health occupations.

Health occupations are also predicted to represent 15 of the 30 fastest growing occupations the country, and 5 of the top 30 occupations with the largest job growth.
