Georgia Statewide AHEC Network Mission

  • To create and sustain community driven, regional programs that promote health care access for medically underserved Georgians by improving the quality, education, supply, distribution, and retention of health care professionals. Programs foster action and advocacy and are implemented through community and academic partnerships.

Network Program Goals

  • Develop and implement health careers awareness and recruitment initiatives directed toward increasing youth knowledge of the available range of health professions careers and toward increasing the competitiveness of rural and minority youth in the higher education applicant pool;
  • Develop and manage a network of community-based clinical preceptors who will accept health professions students, residents, and/or trainees and provide to them necessary clinical training hours;
  • Assess need for, and seek to provide, continuing education programming to all health professionals for the purposes of continued quality care for patients via increased clinical competencies of providers, and for clinical licensure requirements;

  • Develop and support a technology-based learning resource network within each region to support practicing health care providers and students placed for academic experiences in the regions.
