Undergraduate Transfer Admission Requirements

Critical Questions Determine Admissibility

In reviewing applications for undergraduate transfer admission, we consider these primary factors for all programs:

• GPA - What is the student’s overall grade point average in academic coursework?

• Curriculum - Will the applicant complete the required core curriculum by the time of enrollment?

• References - What quality are the student’s references?

• Autobiographical data - Does the applicant adequately express the motivation for this professional career choice?

• Deadlines - Is all material in by the published deadline?

For some undergraduate majors, the following factors may also be considered:

• Test scores - If required, is the student’s SAT-I or ACT score competitive? If required, does the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score meet our minimum requirements?
• Residency - Is the applicant a legal resident of Georgia (preferred for most undergraduate programs)?
• Shadowing, volunteer, and/or employment experience - Has the applicant explored the field adequately?
• Interview - Did the applicant interview well with the admissions committee?

The GPA requirements for admission may change from year to year depending on the space availability in specific majors, but the factors above remain the key to the admission decision. The strongest indicators of academic success at MCG are your transfer GPA and the courses you have completed. Enrollment in baccalaureate degree programs requires completion of the University System of Georgia’s core curriculum for the appropriate field of study. Deadlines

In order to ensure consideration of your undergraduate application, you are expected to submit all admissions materials by the appropriate deadline. This includes the Application, the $30 nonrefundable application fee, official transcripts from each college or university you have attended, and references. Transcripts submitted to MCG after the deadline will be considered only on a space-available basis.

Early application is strongly encouraged.

Courses Not Transferred

• Remedial, developmental or career associate degree courses
• Practicum, colloquium or internship courses
• "Orientation" or "Introduction to College" courses
• Courses in which a grade of D, F, or WF was earned (although the grade will be included in our calculation of the overall transfer GPA, even if the course was repeated with a higher grade)
• Courses taken at other University System of Georgia colleges to remedy College Preparatory Curriculum (high school pre-college curriculum) deficiencies.

Courses Not Included in the Overall Transfer GPA

• Remedial, developmental or career associate degree courses
• Internships
• "Orientation" or "Introduction to College" courses
• Physical Education activities course

Other Undergraduate Admission Categories

(Transient, Unclassified and Second Degree Students)

• Transient Students. Transient applicants are currently enrolled at another college and wish to attend one semester at MCG and transfer the credit back to their home institution. Transient applicants must submit an Application and a Letter of Good Standing from their home institution.
• Unclassified Students. Unclassified undergraduate applicants hold a degree from another accredited college and wish to take additional coursework at MCG, but not to earn a specific degree. Applicants must submit an Application and official transcripts from all colleges they have attended.
• Second Undergraduate Degree Students. Second undergraduate degree applicants have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and want to earn a bachelor’s degree from MCG as well. Applicants must submit an Application and official transcripts from all colleges they have attended, and they must meet all requirements for admission into the desired MCG school, department and major.
