The President is the chief executive officer of the university and is responsible for visionary leadership of strategy and effective management of operations, including the academic, research, service, administrative, and auxiliary enterprises. The President is appointed by and reports to the Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, the state of Georgia’s public education system which is comprised of 35 colleges and universities (four research universities, two regional universities, 13 state universities, eight state colleges, and eight two-year colleges). These institutions enroll approximately 283,000 students and employ over 40,000 faculty and staff to provide teaching and related services to students and the communities in which they are located. The President has the delegated authority and responsibility for the administration and the structural organization of the university within the policies of the Board of Regents, the 18-member governing body of the University System of Georgia. The President’s performance is evaluated annually by the Chancellor with a report of the evaluation provided to the Board.
