D. Douglas Miller

Dr. D. Douglas Miller was appointed dean of the School of Medicine in 2006. Dr. Miller, a cardiologist, came to MCG from Saint Louis University School of Medicine where he served as chair of internal medicine, executive director of Saint Louis University’s Center for Biomedical and Health Care Research, and chief of the Medical Service at Saint Louis University Hospital. Dr. Miller also spent five years on the faculty of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio.

Dr. Miller is a 1978 medical graduate of McGill University, where he completed his internal medicine residency training. He completed a clinical and research cardiology fellowship at Montreal Heart Institute in Quebec, a clinical cardiology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine and a cardiac imaging fellowship at Harvard University. He earned an executive master of business administration degree in international business from Saint Louis University School of Business and Administration in 1999.

Dr. Miller's research interests include the inflammatory basis of coronary atherosclerosis, advanced imaging for early detection of heart disease and the effects of gender on cardiovascular treatment and patient outcomes. He serves on the editorial board of Circulation, American Heart Journal, Journal of Nuclear Cardiology, Canadian Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He is a fellow of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and American College of Physicians. Dr. Miller is a member of numerous other professional societies, including the Association for Professors of Medicine, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the American College of Physician Executives.
