William R. Bowes
Senior Vice President for Finance & Administration

As senior vice president for Finance & Administration of the Medical College of Georgia, William R. Bowes manages and oversees the institution's financial operations, which have grown increasingly complex as the depth and breadth of MCG’s academic, research, and clinical programs have grown.

William R. Bowes replaces Peter L. Munger, who served as Interim vice president for Finance from June to December 2007.

Mr. Bowes was named associate vice chancellor for fiscal affairs for the University System in 1995 and vice chancellor in 2000. He came to the University System from Southern Connecticut State University where he was vice president for finance and administration from 1988-95. Mr. Bowes also previously served as assistant director of budget and finance, director of budget and finance and assistant commissioner/fiscal affairs for the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.

In his role at the University System, Mr. Bowes served on the Board of Directors of MCG Health, Inc., which manages MCG’s clinical facilities. He chaired the Annual Meeting Planning Committee for State Higher Education Officers in 2002 and served as a committee member in 1988, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2004. He has served on the National Center for Education Statistics Task Force to Revise the Facilities and Inventory Classification Manual and as a member of the Southern Regional Education Board Distance Learning Laboratories Finance Subcommittee.

He earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., and a master’s degree in urban and policy sciences from the State University of New York at Stony Brook W. Averill Harriman School for Management and Policy College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
