The Office is administratively responsible for the Georgia Statewide Area Health Education Center Program Office, Center for Patient and Family Centered Care, Division of Continuing Education, Library, the Center for Patient Safety and the Division of Visual and Instructional Design. The Vice President for Instruction and Associate Provost for Academic Affairs is a member of the President's Cabinet and serves, in the absence of Provost, as Chief Academic Officer. The Office also has other duties as assigned by the Provost.
Admissions - The Office of Academic Admissions is responsible for recruitment, admissions operations, and orientation for the MCG Schools of Allied Health Sciences, Graduate Studies, and Nursing. Our staff members:
- Provide admissions counseling
- Evaluate applicant files prior to departmental admissions committee review
- Perform unofficial transcript evaluations, by fax or e-mail
- Recruit students across Georgia and in selected other states
- Make arrangements for visits to our campus by high school and college groups
- Provide information and applications for admission to undergraduate or graduate programs
- Coordinate MCG’s popular Closer Look Tour program
- Publish e-newsletters for college advisors and high school counselors
- Conduct orientation activities for new undergraduate students
Area Health Education Center (AHEC) - A partnership coordinated between Medical College of Georgia and Mercer University School of Medicine, the Georgia Statewide AHEC Network is a complex, multi-disciplinary effort which responds to the problems of health professionals supply and distribution in rural and underserved areas of the state.
Since 1984, the Georgia Statewide AHEC Network has represented a growing partnership of health providers, health professions students, educators, state agencies, and communities joined together with a commitment to resolve these problems through educational support to health professionals in the field, both as students and as practitioners.
Continuing Education - provides professional development and life-long learning for health care professionals including Grand Rounds, one-day and multi-day live conferences, hands-on workshops, jointly sponsored activities, correspondence courses and web-based offerings.
Financial Aid - The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) is dedicated to providing guidance and assistance for students to help ease the financial burdens associated with their education. We strive to find the best possible sources of funding, within the law, for our students at the Medical College of Georgia.
We encourage students to contact our staff to discuss their personal circumstances, questions, or concerns they may have regarding their financial needs.
We strongly encourage students to maintain an active role in maintaining their living budgets, finding ways to decrease their debt, and utilizing as many sources as necessary to ensure a successful future.
The Office of Student Financial Aid does not endorse any specific lender.
Personnel will maintain strictly professional relationships with lenders to address servicing issues related to student funding. We will, based upon request from students, provide counseling regarding debt and prior service issues of lenders. However, lender selection is ultimately the decision of students and should be based on personal needs and preferences.
Robert B. Greenblatt, M.D. Library - The Greenblatt Library provides mission critical support of teaching, research and clinical care for the MCG community. With its unique role as the public health sciences library of Georgia, it also serves as a regional resource library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
The Greenblatt Library uses advanced technology to provide access to an ever-increasing virtual library of online journals, databases and other resources in addition to preserving the institution's printed heritage. With service as its hallmark, the Library offers innovative technologies, educational programs and customized services on site 98 hours per week and through the web on a 24/7 basis.
Center for Patient & Family Centered Care - MCG is leading the nation in patient- and family-centered care. By encouraging patients and families to become an integral part of the care team, we are improving the way health care is delivered. It's an important new philosophy in medicine and one we are proud to be leading.
Office of the Registrar - Academic regulations and calendars are maintained by the Office of the Registrar at the Medical College of Georgia. The office is located in room 171 in the Kelly Administration Building on Laney-Walker Boulevard. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visual and Instructional Design - (VID) supports faculty by integrating the art and science of teaching and research. VID offers professional graphic art services, video productions, scantron testing services, photography, and professional research and instructional support.
