Grant Application for Parkinson-Related Research
Background: The Augusta Chapter, National Parkinson Foundation,
has established the Sheffield Memorial Grant, for research in the Augusta
medical community on Parkinson Disease, causes, treatments and/or cures. The
local Parkinson Support Group, originated in 1991, became a chapter of the
National Parkinson Foundation, Inc. (NPF) in 2001. The CSRA group conducts
fundraising efforts to support research nationally through NPF and also in the
Augusta area, particularly in recognition of the designation of the Medical
College of Georgia as a National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence. The
grant has been designated the Sheffield Memorial Grant in tribute to the
founders of the Support Group.
Purpose: To sponsor research related to Parkinson Disease,
finding the cure or causes, or developing care and treatment. Research projects
may be new ventures or supplemental to already existing approved projects.
Funding may be used for equipment, personnel, software, evaluations, or other
identified requirements. Funds are to be used for direct costs only, not
indirect costs. Indirect costs are not allowable with this research grant.
Proposal: Applicants for the grant of $7500 must submit
proposals using the attached format, typed
using at least 12-point type, with a limit of two pages. Back-up materials or
clarifying information not included in the original two pages, may be attached,
especially if application refers to an on-going project. All proposals must
be approved by the applicant institution. This may be accomplished by a
cover letter signed by the principal investigator and an institutional official.
Applications are due by April 1, 2004.

Grant funding will be available for award May 1, 2004, and will be made
payable to the applicant institution. The award recipient will be notified on
April 21, 2004 and officially presented at the meeting of the Parkinson Support
Group on April 27, 2004. The awardees will be asked to present a report on the
findings of that particular research at a later meeting of the Parkinson Support
Group, along with a short written report of use of the funds.
