The
Lifetime Achievement Award aims to recognize an
individual who has made significant
contributions to research (generally for a
period of at least 20 years with a minimum of 10
years at MCG). The Award recognizes fundamental
research that leads to insights into disease
prevention, progression, or therapy.
Nominees should have demonstrated outstanding
scholarly activity and sustained external
support in addition to significant contributions
to the development of the research programs at
MCG. The nominee's research may be focused
on either basic science, clinical science,
clinical outcomes and/or epidemiological
research. Their scientific contributions should
be recognized nationally and internationally as
evidenced by citations in preeminent scientific
journals, membership on expert panels, sustained
extramural funding, awards, elite national honor
societies and invited addresses. The individual
who qualifies for this award should also have
displayed outstanding mentoring and leadership
qualities. Active full time faculty, part time
faculty (whose primary appointments are at MCG)
and Emeritus faculty are eligible.
Nominations must be submitted on the forms
provided by two independent faculty. Self
nominations will not be accepted. The nomination
letters, forms and required supporting
documentation should be submitted to the Vice
President for Research, Dr. Frank Treiber,
CJ-3317, or
ftreiber@mcg.edu no later than August 1, 2006.
Nominations will be considered by an
interdisciplinary panel of scientists at MCG.
Committee selections will be made by September
15, 2006 and announced at a banquet celebrating
the 25th Anniversary of Medical College of
Georgia Research Institute (MCGRI) on October
20, 2006.
