Grants.gov
is
the federal government’s single on-line portal to
find and
apply for federal grant
funding.
Grants.gov
is a cross-agency initiative
spanning 900 grant programs in 26 federal grant making
agencies.
Grants.gov is
secure, reliable and simplifies the grant application process by
reducing paperwork and man hours. It is estimated that greater
than 200 million pieces of paper/year will be saved.
A 2002 President’s Management
Agenda specified that agencies allow applicants to apply for and
manage grants funds on-line through a common website. In
addition, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) mandated
that 75% of all federal agencies’ 2006 funding opportunities be
posted in
Grants.gov.
Why
Grants.gov when
many of the federal agencies have agency specific submission
software (e.g. Fastlane for NSF, eRA Commons for NIH, CDMRP for
DOD)?
Grants.gov does not
replace the federal agencies’ electronic submission software.
Grants.gov
is the single on-line point of
entry for the transfer of information from the applicant to the
agencies. Once transmitted from
Grants.gov
to the federal agency, the
information will be accessed using the familiar agency specific
software.
To prepare your application,
Grants.gov
requires specific software.
For Windows users, PureEdge Viewer will need to be downloaded to
your PC. For Mac users, CITRIX software must be downloaded.
The Citrix software is an emulator or software that permits MAC
systems to run and process data exactly like the PureEdge Viewer
software. Instructions on how to download the software can be
found at the
Grants.gov
website,
http://www.grants.gov/.
For NIH submissions you will
also need an eRA Commons User ID. Contact your Grant and
Contract Officer to register for an eRA Commons User ID,
http://www.mcg.edu/SPA/preaward.htm .
Workshops and training sessions
are available, and NIH anticipates a test environment will be
available in April. Be pro-active and contact your grant and
contract officer. |
