SON On A Roll: SCCP Campaign |
2009 RWJ Scholars Selected |
Several SON staffers participated in the first Annual MCG Bowling Night benefiting the State Charitable Contributions Program. Allison Carr, Allen Edmunds, Joseph Garner, Jacqueline Hogue and Kevin Velez teamed up to represent the SON and compete against bowling teams from across campus. When the lanes cleared, Kevin Velez emerged as the SON leader, bowling a 150 for the night.
By all accounts, the SON team "had a blast" - thanks to our staffers for doing their part to represent the SON and support the SCCP. Remember, the campaign runs through November 6, so please turn in your packets and/or purchase a heart from Ms. Hogue or Gina Boyd. Every dollar counts! Ms. Hogue reports that we are well on our way to repeating last year's success. GO TEAM! Check out www.mcg.edu/sccp for more information about the campaign. |
As previously reported, MCG School of Nursing was awarded funding for ten scholarships through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing Program. Through a competitive process, ten new Clinical Nurse Leader students have been selected to receive the awards, becoming the newest RWJ Scholars at MCG. The 2009 recipients include:
Joshua Dunn, Aleshia Edwards, Tamiracle Ezell, Dayne Godwin, Tehrae Heflin, Patrick Hosey, Audrey Kim, Angel Mobley, Alexias Register and Lee Sullivan. In addition to a financial award of $10,000, the scholars will participate in targeted activities designed to enhance their educational experiences.
Again this year, MCG is the only institution in Georgia to receive funding through the RWJ New Careers in Nursing Program. Participation in the scholarship program has generated partnerships with Paine and Spelman Colleges and garnered additional scholarship support from MCGHealth, University Hospital, and Athens Regional Medical Center. Fall Info Session Draws Record Numbers: According to Associate Dean Dr. Janie Heath, Saturday’s Fall Information Session was a “HUGE success” with nearly 90 attendees from across Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. “80% of the people who signed up actually came - even with the rainy weather,” she exclaimed. This information session was the first to showcase both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. “Thanks to all of our program leaders, staff and support staff who pitched in to make the day a success,” added Dr. Heath.
