Medical College of Georgia Section of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryThe Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the dental specialty which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunct treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. This section treats patients with maxillofacial trauma, infections and pathologic lesions of the oral and maxillofacial region, malalignment and maldevelopment of the jaw, as well as patients requiring both bone grafting and reconstructive procedures after trauma or cancer surgery. Patients requiring surgical procedures prior to prosthetic rehabilitation, including dental implants, also are treated, as well as patients with disturbances of the temporomandibular joint requiring surgical intervention. The section or its faculty members can make outpatient appointments or begin the hospital admission procedure.
