Surgical Research Service Research Facilities MCG's research facilities continue to expand. The 183,000-square foot Carl T. Sanders Research and Education Building houses many basic science departments and their associated research programs. In 1996, a new 80,000-square foot interdisciplinary Research Facility opened. A number of core research groups, along with the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics, are located in the four-story building. Ground was broken August 21, 2002 on the 94,000-square-foot addition to the Medical College of Georgia Interdisciplinary Research Building. This addition reflects the dramatic growth in our research initiatives. The new building will house the Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine as well as the diverse research initiatives of the faculty in the Department of Physiology. The MCG Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development will operate an incubator facility to foster development of new biomedical businesses for the Augusta community and a 6,000-square-foot animal care facility will support scientific studies. The newly formed Center for Healthcare Improvement provides resources and personnel to investigate issues related to health outcomes. |
