Medical College of Georgia Surgical Research Service
As the 11th oldest medical school in the United States and the third oldest in the Southeast, the Medical College of Georgia has played a significant role in American medical education for nearly 170 years. Graduates from MCG's five schools - Allied Health Sciences, Dentistry, Graduate Studies, Medicine and Nursing- deliver health care throughout the state, the nation and the world. Its threefold mission of teaching, research and patient care is incorporated into MCG Hospital and Clinics, an academic medical center and a leading critical care referral center for Georgia and the Southeast.
The Surgical Research Service supports the educational goals of the university in development of state of the art surgical care. The service is part of the Medical College of Georgia Department of Surgery, chaired by Dr. Thomas R. Gadacz, although the section provides clinical support for multiple surgical subspecialties. The surgical faculty consists of over 60 members actively involved in some of MCG's 300-plus research grants.
