Healthy Minds Across America September 14, 2008 Public Forum on the Progress, Challenges and Promise of Mental Health Research Presented by NARSAD |
For nearly 20 years, NARSAD, the premiere philanthropic foundation in the world solely dedicated to mental illness has organized public forums at many of the universities and medical centers around the country. Leading mental health experts at these institutions discussed the rapid progress of mental health research over the past few decades and take stock of what we know so far about the brain and its disorders and what we still need to learn about the causes and progression of major mental illnesses. For people coping with mental illness, their loved ones and mental health professionals, these events provided up-to-the-moment information on what we know about the symptoms and course of mental disorders and about available and potential treatments. Medical College of Georgia faculty members who are recipients of NARSAD Awards for their work presented topics on research accomplishments and prospects for better treatments for schizophrenia.
