The Eating Disorders Program is directed by Christian Lemmon, Ph.D. and has served to provide patient care, supervision, teaching and research in the specialized area of eating disorders since 1991. The Eating Disorders Program was created to treat people from Augusta and surrounding areas that are struggling with symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and other feeding disturbances.
The program utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in the provision of care for eating disorder patients and has served as a model of biopsychosocial treatment within the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior. This team approach includes personnel from the fields of psychology, psychiatry, medicine, nutrition, physical therapy, occupational therapy and social work.
Patients' treatment needs are assessed to determine the most appropriate treatment protocol for their specific symptoms and they may be placed in one or more treatment programs that include inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment and outpatient psychotherapy. Treatment in each of these settings may include individual, group and/or family psychotherapy, as well as medication management, medical intervention, nutritional educational and counseling, physical therapy and occupational therapy.
