Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes
 and Metabolism

The Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism provides the comprehensive evaluation, care, and treatment of hospitalized and ambulatory patients with problems involving endocrinology and metabolism including, but not limited to diabetes mellitus, metabolic bone diseases, adrenal, lipid, pituitary and thyroid        disorders.

Our physicians have a broad range of clinical experience with special focus in areas of diabetes, metabolic bone disease and thyroid disease.

The Comprehensive Diabetes Care Center provides a multidisciplinary approach to the care of the diabetic patient and is staffed by physicians, physician assistant, diabetes educators, nutritionists as well as a full range of ancillary and consultative services including evaluation, initiation and continuity of care of patients by utilizing innovative technologies including insulin pump therapy. We offer specialized clinics for the intensive management of the diabetic patient.  Our diabetes teaching program is accredited by the American Diabetes Association.

The Metabolic Bone Disease Center provides care for patients with the full spectrum of bone disorders.  The center has facilities for bone biopsy and bone densitometry analysis (DEXA).

                                        Research

Clinical Research Programs include new drug therapies for osteoporosis and the impact of new technologies on the management of diabetes.  Basic science research programs include studies on the hormone modulation of bone metabolism, signal transduction of aldosterone secretion and its modulation by atrial natriuretic peptide and genetic susceptibility to Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
