Catheter Positioned
Balloon Inflated
Stent Remaining |
In Balloon Angioplasty, a balloon catheter is inserted into the arterial system, positioned at the area of blockage, and inflated to compress the fatty deposits against the arterial wall.
This opens up the artery so
blood can flow normally.
A
Stent
(small metal structure) is often used with the balloon catheter, and
remains in the artery to keep it open after the balloon is removed.

MCG currently endeavors to provide primary angioplasty to all patients who arrive with heart attacks who need reperfusion. This is a treatment which increases the chances of surviving a heart attack. We hope to soon provide interventional therapy for non-coronary vascular disease.
