Jeff Mumm , Ph.D.

Year of Entry:

2007

Education:

B.S. University of South Carolina Aiken

Research Description:

To develop an assay for studying membrane repair and genes related to deficiencies in repair which potentially lead to muscular dystrophy.

My lab is interested in the regenerative properties of the eye in Zebrafish and the neural development within the eye.  My goal is to Develop Tools for observing Neural cell behavior and development and study the regenerative aspects of Cone photo receptors in the retina.  One of the collaborations within my lab is with Professor McNeil.  His research involves understanding the proteins and processes of membrane repair in wounded cells.  My goals for the collaboration is to develop an in vivo assay to study cell membrane repair using the zebrafish model.

Progress toward graduation:
Completed first Comprehensive exam and currently forming a committee.  Currently investigating a problem involving membrane repair.  I started developing an assay to study Membrane repair in Zebrafish.
